"As long as there is Russia and Serbia, there will never be an independent Kosovo," said Marko Jaksic, a hard-line Kosovo Serb leader, speaking at yesterday's protest in Mitrovica, where portraits of Russian President Vladimir Putin adorn shop windows. "America is no longer the single world power."

"There are dozens of various Kosovos in the world and all of them lie in wait for Kosovo's act of secession to become a reality and to become established as an acceptable norm."

"We underlined the dangerous consequences of such a step, which threatens the destruction of world order and international stability which have developed over decades," the statement said.
